Verse 1 is in the nature of a title to the whole book and not properly a part of the exhortation though the indication of time refers only to the visions following. Which year this was we stated above under Historical Circumstances. Such information as bore upon the identification of the prophet was discussed under the Person of the Prophet. See the Introduction. It remains only to add that the term “the prophet” after “Iddo” is not in apposition with Iddo. Grammatically this would indeed be possible.
